The sports network Parts Ways with Analyst Sanchez, Replaces Him with Former QB Brees
The network has terminated its association with sports commentator Mark Sanchez amidst his legal allegations, multiple outlets confirmed this past Friday.
"We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network," a Fox spokesperson commented. "There will be no further comment currently."
Stepping into the commentary position will be an ex- NFL quarterback, Drew Brees, as per the information. He is expected to work alongside play-by-play voice Adam Amin and is signed to call games until at least 2026.
Background on the Sanchez Situation
Sanchez, 38 had been removed from duties since he was injured in a stabbing and subsequently arrested following a fight in an alley in Indianapolis with a senior truck driver. He had traveled to commentate on the 5 October game between the Colts and Las Vegas Raiders but was admitted to the hospital and replaced that week by Brady Quinn.
Sanchez has been charged with a felony battery charge as well as multiple misdemeanors. This serious charge could result in of 1-6 years in prison, upon a guilty verdict, and he has entered a not guilty plea in the Indiana court.
Brees' Career and Background
The 46-year-old Brees retired from the NFL following the 2020 campaign and worked during 2021 with NBC Sports, acting as a game analyst for the Notre Dame football coverage and appearing on a football program.
Brees has done studio work with Fox and ESPN and acted as an analyst for Netflix’s international game during the holidays.
Brees led the Saints team to a Super Bowl XLIV championship in the 2009 season and was a two-time NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He is second behind Tom Brady in NFL history in yards thrown (80,358) and touchdown passes (571).
