The President Calls Loved Ones of Shot Military Members to the Presidential Residence
Former President Trump revealed on Sunday that he has invited the loved ones of a Guard member killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was lost her life in a attack on last Wednesday in DC.
Her comrade, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their honor.
White House Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re ready, because that’s a difficult moment, come to the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” the president told journalists. “And likewise with him, recover or not.”
Public Response
Community members gathered over the past few days at the high school in West Virginia to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s national effort to aid policing efforts in DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“Sarah was the kind of student that teachers desired. She carried herself with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a optimistic attitude that inspired those around her,” the principal, the principal of Beckstrom’s former high school, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Funeral details for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Measures and Government Adjustments
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and charges of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy prompted the Trump administration to suspend refugee claims and cease issuing entry permits to owners of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a native of the city, enlisted in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the AP.
He is still undergoing care and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
Attorney general Bondi told a news show that she also intended to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Legacy of Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” the governor addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life was cut short, she has made an impact that’s going to endure.”
