The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.

Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. She has committed zero crimes,” Levine Cava said in a speech with obvious nods to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – originating from a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently made “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

Six Seven the pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to begin the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Annually, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of croquettes and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
