Antony Price, the visionary British fashion designer responsible for some of the most iconic looks associated with David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his defined forms and performative fashion, including the soft-colored suits that appeared in rock band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"They honored him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance on social media."

This news arrives just weeks after he presented his latest collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen modelled a dress inspired by the iconic black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by the late Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing menswear at Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that The Rolling Stones' frontman Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in the late sixties.

He established his eponymous line in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on supermodel Jerry Hall, who also wore the wedding dress Price specifically designed for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the memorable jacket the artist wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping sculptural silhouettes made him a "one-of-a-kind talent," according to the British Fashion Council.

By the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including various looks for her US tour after becoming Duchess.

After a career spanning over fifty years, Price held his ultimate fashion presentation in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: The core of his aesthetic.
  • Dramatic Impact: Defining an era of music fashion.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Merging menswear with womenswear.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

Design circles laments the passing to a authentic original whose influence on fashion and music remains deeply ingrained.
