Supporters Demand Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Passionate supporters of Ariana Grande are demanding that a man who breached a barrier and seized the performer during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or removed from Singapore.
A widely shared footage shows the individual from Australia bypassing photographers and charging at Grande while the cast made its way down a event pathway accompanied by onlookers.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the event by event staff.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "free after being arrested", though official papers showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the following morning. It is uncertain if he was charged.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a concert or event. His Instagram feed includes videos of him disturbing other celebrity events, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney show in June this year and in a similar way during The Chainsmokers event in the area last winter.
"There needs to be action applied against him as this is clearly a legal violation," commented an Instagram follower, in a reply to a video Mr Wen posted of his act.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user remarked.
Followers Express Concern Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Numerous supporters blamed Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her 2017 show in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" said a further comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also criticised guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while others called for digital services to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Premiere Information
In footage shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her co-stars Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be spotted reassuring her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the remaining proceedings proceeded as normal.
Hundreds of supporters had assembled in a sea of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific launch in a Singapore shopping center, including some who had waited for as long as eight hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the follow-up of a two-part interpretation of the acclaimed stage show Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two very different sorceresses.
The musical itself is a derivative of the classic book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the character Glinda Glinda, was decked out in a rosé sequin dress at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the villainous character, wore a sleek black dress featuring roses.
They were alongside fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the most successful movie of the previous year in the UK, and received a dozen Oscar nominations, winning two for outstanding attire and set decoration.
