New York Jets Head Coach Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After NYC Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he has been in contact with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in central New York in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “in good spirits” during a recent discussion.

“That gives me comfort, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he is expected to recover fully.”

The coach did not know when Boyd might be released the medical facility, where he has been listed as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “Yet I must mention, hearing him speak, he seemed very positive. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

NYPD released surveillance images Monday of an individual wanted in the shooting of Boyd. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No one else was hurt were reported.

The shooting happened just after 2am on Sunday near the famous arena and the bustling tourist spot. Boyd, 29, was admitted to a local hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn mentioned Boyd has been on his mind “constantly” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, considering his child and I want to make sure that he’s OK. And that’s the only thing that really went through my mind.
“There’s a process to this, that I won’t detail, but It is reassuring that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd did not participate in the present campaign, his debut year with New York, after going on the season-ending injured reserve list on August 18 with a shoulder issue that required surgery.

He joined the Jets as a free agent in spring and was anticipated to become a key part of a revamped special teams unit under Glenn and ST coordinator Chris Banjo. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during a practice session on early August and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while healing from his surgery.

“He has stayed engaged with the team,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, spent his initial four years with the Vikings after his selection in the later rounds by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad subsequently. Boyd inked a single-season agreement valued at $1.6 million with New York in the spring.
