Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich
Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with six months remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Munich was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's fans after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top forwards. Per multiple sources, the formalities for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Attack
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant boost to United’s forward line. She has been remarkably reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Old Trafford
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be gathering momentum.
Recent on-pitch successes feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the mid-season window has brought additional activity:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
