Information Available Regarding the Those Lost of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

No fewer than 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 sustained injuries when attackers shot at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, a tragedy local police have labeled a act of terrorism.

According to the most recent information, authorities have announced the number of fatalities is 16, encompassing one of the alleged attackers. Furthermore, 42 people with injuries were taken to hospital.

The victims are still awaiting officially identified, but authorities state their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

London-born clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.

Described as a father of five children, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who loved to help people”.

“How can a happy rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also confirmed among the deceased, according to his wife.

She described the moments leading up to the attack, stating they had been standing together when the shooting erupted. “He shielded me because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.

The husband and wife were both Holocaust survivors, having faced immense hardship in their youth. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.

Dan Elkayam

French authorities have announced that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.

Officially, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family and loved ones, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a disgusting rise of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.

One Child

A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital succumbed to her injuries, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

Of the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain receiving treatment, with a number in serious condition. The injured comprise two police officers who attended the scene.

A wounded man is a member of the public who attempted to intervene to tackle one of the attackers. Called a local hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a community leader. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the scene as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the actions of those who rushed to help. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a community director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.

“Initially, I believed it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I was hit. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
