Exactly Twelve historical artefacts were ceremoniously given back to the Ethiopian nation after being kept by a family in Germany for over 100 years.

These artefacts, originally collected in the 1920s by the German representative to the Ethiopian empire Franz Weiss and his spouse his partner, were delivered on Wednesday to the research center at the capital's university.

This set included royal crowns, shields and paintings, each regarded as historically valuable in the nation.

"The treasures still serve as a mark of the enduring and friendly ties between Germany and the Ethiopian people," remarked the German diplomat, the ambassador to the East African country.

Dr. a professor, whose father was born during the family's assignment in the nation, handed over the artefacts at a event attended by Tourism Minister the tourism official.

He explained that the family's aim to return the artefacts was to "share their appeal with the public and maintain the culture and history connected to my parent's beginning."

The artefacts were either considered gifts or acquisitions, according to the relatives.

"We would like to express gratitude to the Weiss household for actively expressing their deep affection for Ethiopia by carefully safeguarding these artifacts and vitally securing their homecoming to their legitimate country," said the minister of tourism.

She continued that the items would soon be available to the general audience for investigation and academic study, terming the action a milestone in preserving Ethiopia's national treasures.

"Actions persist to bring back ancient objects that are found in the hands of collectors and entities all over the globe," the minister said.

In the era of colonialism in the African continent, thousands of historical objects were taken.

This request by African countries for the repatriation of taken artefacts has been responded to by certain progress in lately - though a number of artefacts are just on loan.

Back in two years ago, Germany was the initial country to return a portion of the well-known historical items to Nigeria as part of an effort to address its "dark past."
