The recorded message, shared on Tuesday, includes six Democratic lawmakers who formerly acted in armed forces or security positions.
"Like us, you all took an vow to safeguard and uphold this founding document," the lawmakers affirmed in the brief video. "At present, the threats to our constitution are not only from overseas, but from within our own country. Our laws are clear, you can reject unlawful commands, you can reject illegal orders, you should refuse illegal orders. No one has to follow commands that break the statutes or our national charter."
Trump's Angry Reaction
The recorded statement reportedly trigger a heated reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.
On later in the week, Trump published on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these traitors to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."
In a separate post, he wrote: "This represents really concerning, and Dangerous to our United States. Their statements cannot be allowed to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"
In a third post, he stated: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also reposted a statement that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"
Party Officials Answer
Following Trump's remarks on Thursday, Democratic leadership published a joint declaration condemning the comments.
"Political violence has no place in this nation," they stated. "Elected officials who appeared in the video all acted our United States with tremendous patriotism and excellence. We clearly condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and dangerous death threats against congressional representatives, and urge GOP representatives to strongly do the same."
The party representatives also said that they had been in contact with protective services "to make certain the safety of these members and their families."
"Donald Trump must immediately remove these radical digital publications and retract his aggressive language before he causes harm," the declaration added.
Lawmakers' Defiant Reaction
The representatives who participated in the video also issued a response.
"We identify as veterans and national security professionals who value this United States and took an pledge to safeguard and support the founding document of the United States," they said. "This commitment continues forever, and we plan to honor it. No threat, coercion, or promotion of aggression will prevent us from that sacred responsibility."
"What's most telling is that the former president considers it punishable by execution for us to repeat the statutes," they added. "Armed forces members should recognize that we have their protection as they fulfill their oath to the constitution and duty to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our duty."
They continued: "The entire nation must join forces and denounce the former president's requests for our execution and political violence. This is a moment for principled stance."
Further Governmental Responses
The Opposition leader also censured Trump's comments and shared on digital platforms: "Let's be crystal clear: the ex-commander in chief is requesting the capital punishment of government members."
He stated: "This is an clear THREAT. Each congressional member, all representatives, the entire nation – irrespective of political affiliation – should condemn this immediately and absolutely."
The Conservative official defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "rebellion", characterizing the video as "extremely improper", adding: "It is very harmful, you have prominent officials of the government telling military personnel to ignore directives, I think that represents without precedent in American history."
The Conservative representative also reportedly informed the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "explaining the crime of treason" but that "attorneys have to analyze the wording and decide all that."
Executive Branch Statement
During a executive branch meeting on Thursday afternoon, when asked by a media member, "Is the president want to kill members of Congress?", the White House press secretary answered: "No."
"We should understand about what the president is responding to," the spokesperson declared. "There are sitting members of the American legislature who coordinated to arrange a video message to individuals of the US military, to serving soldiers advising them to disobey the executive's legal commands."
She stated: "The integrity of our armed forces depends on the command structure, and if that structure is violated, it can cause casualties, it can result in chaos, and that's what these elected officials ... are basically promoting."
