Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Loss

The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for doubts to be raised about his future after a further convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” Slot stated.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win of course but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”

He added, “I accept my situation. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Conversations with The Board

When asked to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach said:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me all the time each day to say they trust me.”

He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so let’s see.”

Persistent Issues and Squad Response

The manager lamented familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the current crisis.

“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is unacceptable. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond being angry inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He continued, “It's difficult because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with performances this poor.”

Jones stated, “However we continue to wear the crest on our chest. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why people call it the best team in the planet.”

“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
