Adult Swim's Top Fresh Series of 2025 Secures a Major Renewal for an Additional Two Seasons.
In October of last year, Adult Swim debuted a new season of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. However, not long after, the network introduced a fresh animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns proved to be heartwarming and calm, evoking a animated take of a serene talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's wholesomeness resonated deeply and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, Adult Swim revealed exciting news: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa voicing for all four key characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the fans of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," remarked Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer."
Executive Acclaim
In the same announcement laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who discovered the show and championed its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a gentle counterpart" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something surprisingly comfy about following this lovable family navigate their everyday routines.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his goal to help comedy break out of its long-running cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.
“It feels like there's a default mode of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for 10 years, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
The Path Forward
Now, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa could potentially help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to enjoy the warm glow of the beloved Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is currently streaming on HBO Max.
